PERIODONTAL CARE
Removing the bacteria through deep cleaning
Periodontal (Gum) Treatment:
It is estimated that more than half of the U.S. adults have gingivitis. Gingivitis, in some cases, can lead to bone loss (periodontitis) and is related to other general health issues.
In addition, gum disease can cause bleeding, swelling, bad breath, pain, receding gums, and tooth loss. But it doesn’t always stop there, your oral health is connected to your overall health.
Gum disease causes a buildup of bacteria in your gums and around your teeth. Those bacteria can transfer to your bloodstream, putting you at a much higher risk to develop the following health problems:
- Stroke
- Respiratory Disease
- Heart Disease
- Diabetes
- Ulcers
- Osteoporosis
- Arthritis
- Pre-Term Births
Periodontal treatment typically involves removing the bacteria through deep cleaning. This deep cleaning consists of scaling and root planning which clears the bacteria buildup along the roots of the teeth. In some resistant cases, we may refer you to a periodontist, a dentist who specializes in gum care.
We examine your gum health at every check-up. If you have been experiencing any symptoms like bad breath, bleeding or tender gums, please let us know!
Implant Placement:
With Dental Implants you can easily replace one missing tooth, several teeth, or all of your teeth.
Unlike a dental bridge where the teeth on either side of a missing tooth must be ground down, dental implants don’t require cutting healthy teeth. Instead, implants are placed into the jawbone, where the titanium implant acts as the root of the tooth. After a period of healing, a porcelain crown made to fit your implant is secured to the implant.
The crown looks and functions just like a natural tooth. Implants are stable secure and highly dependable, allowing you to comfortably eat all your favorite foods.
Extractions:
Losing teeth can have an impact on your overall health. We strive to help you keep your teeth for your lifetime, but sometimes it is necessary to remove a tooth.
Reasons for tooth extraction can include:
- a severely decayed or broken tooth
- severe periodontal (gum) disease or infection
- orthodontics (to make room for straightening your teeth)
- impaction of teeth in the jaws
Most necessary extractions can be done here in our office. However, depending on the severity of the condition of the tooth, Dr. Moxley may refer an extraction to a specialist with advanced training in extractions and oral surgery.
Don’t suffer with tooth pain. We can help you find the best solution.
Gum Grafting:
Some people suffer from receding gums which occurs for a variety of reasons. Gum grafting can be utilized to repair or regenerate areas of receding gums to stop further recession or to cover up exposed roots. This can be very helpful to strengthen weak and receding areas or to improve cosmetics if recession is occurring in visible front tooth areas. If you have gum concerns or changes please let us know, we can help!
